Ingredients
  

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Optional: ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips for extra richness

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place your unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges. Set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, and salt until evenly combined.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs lightly, then add in the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth.
  • Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, whisking until a thick batter forms. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pie crust, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  • Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  • Allow the pie to cool completely on a rack before serving. It will firm up as it cools.

Notes

  • Don’t Overbake – The center should still be slightly soft when you remove it from the oven.
  • Use High-Quality Cocoa – For the richest flavor, use Dutch-processed or a premium cocoa powder.
  • Cool Before Slicing – Let the pie cool for at least an hour to firm up for clean slices.
