Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 blend
  • 1 medium yellow onion sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter for onions
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp butter for bread
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Form two beef patties, season with salt and pepper.
  • Heat skillet, cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side.
  • Remove and rest patties on a paper towel.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter for onions.
  • Add sliced onions, cook until soft and caramelized.
  • Mix mayo and mustard in a small bowl.
  • Spread mix on one side of bread slices.
  • Place cheese, patty, and onions on one slice.
  • Top with another bread slice, sauce-side down.
  • Butter outer sides of sandwich.
  • Grill sandwich on skillet until golden brown.
  • Flip and repeat on other side. Serve hot!

Notes

  1. Use rye bread for classic flavor and sturdiness.
  2. Don’t skip resting the patties after cooking.
  3. Caramelize onions slowly on medium heat.
  4. Butter bread edges evenly to avoid dry spots.
  5. Press sandwich gently for even browning.
